Digital Disorder

Moving is stressful enough, but when you get to a new place and try to sort out your internet connectivity and get nowhere it can just about tip you over the edge! Yarrabilba is a fully fiber-optic connected community. Residents have access to high speed broadband internet connection as well as telephone and Free to Air TV over a fibre optic connection.

Internet, Telephone and PayTV

There are no copper telephone connections available in the estate, and as such ADSL connections are not available. According to the OptiComm website, the “OptiComm Fibre Connected Communities deliver advanced services over and above that specified by the Government’s National Broadband Network policy. Our approach to the design and operation of Fibre to the Premises is based on years of research and development. So don’t live in any fibre connected home, live in an OptiComm Fibre Connected Community and enjoy the benefits of a fully featured fibre network.”

Of the major Australian telcos, Telstra and Optus are not currently offering services via OptiComm in Queensland, however the TPG Internet conglomerate is represented by both its iinet and internode brands and iPrimus is in the mix.

Getting Connected

The link here https://www.OptiComm.net.au/my-connection/residential-connection/ helps step you through the process of ensuring the dwelling is connected to the OptiComm network (has a network termination device installed) and ready for service.

Once the Network Termination Device (NTD) is installed and commissioned the network is capable of having a retail service activated. This may be any of the following: Internet, Telephone (2), Foxtel and a range of other services. At this stage you should be in a position to order and have a service provided to you by a Retail Service Provider (RSP).

OptiComm’s Fibre to the Premises solution is an “Open Access” network that provides residential and business customers a choice of retail service providers.

Reporting Faults

OptiComm is a wholesale access provider and is restricted by law from providing direct assistance to end users for Internet, Phone or Foxtel faults or issues. Please contact your Service Provider directly to lodge any issues. If your Service Provider tells you to contact OptiComm, please inform the customer service representative that they need to lodge the fault with OptiComm on your behalf if they deem the issue relates to OptiComm’s part of the network.

Free to Air TV

Once the OptiComm Fibre to the Premises network connection has been completed, Free to Air TV Services (FTA-TV) will be available. You do not require an antenna on your roof to receive a signal as OptiComm reticulates all of the analogue and digital Free to air channels.

Getting Connected

As part of the arrangement with Lendlease, OptiComm has agreed to deliver the Fibre network to every home in the estate. You can get access to the television signals without having to order any other services. Just ensure your home has been correctly wired and OptiComm will deliver the television via the optical fibre network free of charge.

To get your TV connected with OptiComm you should complete and submit the connection request form prior to moving into your home.

Reporting Faults

Before reporting any television service fault, you should ensure you have checked for any problems within your home or equipment, however if the problem persists and you need to report a fault with your television reception, contact the OptiComm Freeview support team on 1300 044 319.
